King Arthur Documentary Notes
•The legend of King Arthur has been told for thousands of years, in many different ways.
-the legend consists of many symbols such as the cup, the round table, and the magic sword (Excalibur)
•In an industrial suburb of Oxford. In 1129 a young welsh cleric man, Geoffrey of Mogmouth told one of the best versions of the story of all time.
-he thoroughly described the beauty and came up with the idea of Merlin
-It is not to be thought of as history but as storytelling
•They tell the story of King Arthur
-Arthur's dad- Uther
1- Uther was given a potion to be loved by the Queen

•Some say the building remains in Tintagel prove that Arthur truly does exist
-The story was a political weapon because of his prophecy that the English would rise again
•People chant on Excalibur to be given independence from England
•Lord Fortiger- tyrant
•Saxons are ancestors of today's English, they were the first to be on Britain
-They were first welcomed
•In 449 AD two ships came up the river.
•The Saxons stole more land than they were given by Fortiger
•People today use reenactment to create the story
-many seek to recreate the period
•Arthur fought twelve battles with the image of Mary on his shoulders and Jesus in his heart
-Arthur represents the celts
1- He killed many Saxons, he was the Victor in all of his wars
•Fortiger had to find the golden haired boy to kill him and sprinkle his blood around so he could rebuild his castle
•One day the celts would override the Saxons, prophesied by the blond boy, Merlin, who survived.

•Arthur had some poems, read in the video
-"He knows how bright a star is and how wide heaven is"
•Young Arthur was the only one able to pull the sword from the stone,me fen after all the worthiest lords tried.
-The archbishop claimed "here is the man God has chosen"
•the sword in the stone is one of the most famous stories of Arthur
•The made bronze swords in 1000BC
•The English began so see Arthur as a threat
-His last resting place was the island of Avalon
1-He now has a tomb placed where he had died when his body was discovered 16 feet under, however his death was a fraud and he had faked his own death.
•His legend became international
-There is a building in France which is meant to be designed as people thought the world of Arthur would look
-Arthur= medieval superman

•The amazing twist of Geoffrey's story was that a vision was seen by Persible consisting of a boy with a bleeding hand and a girl with a grail holding a light that made the candles loosing their brightness
-A grail in the vision soon the became the grail used by Christ
