After he had become a steam-boat captain along the Mississippi River, the Civil War had started, stopping his boating days, and causing him to join the Confederate army. He did not last long in the war and soon extracted himself from it. Later he decided to try his hand at newspaper reporting. By doing so, he discovered his talent as a very successful journalist. His impact on literature had been a huge breakthrough in the writing world and as Ernest Hemingway had said about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, "All modern literature stems from this one book." The fact that Twain was an atheist could've effected his amazing literary writings because he may not have had the distractions or obligations as a Christian or any other religion.
Mark Twain had suffered many losses in his life including the death of his daughter Susy in 1896, the death of his wife Olivia in 1904, and the death of another one of his daughters, Jean in 1909. Even though he had had many of these kind of losses throughout his life, he had never lost his literary talent or humor. After the death of his daughter and wife, Twain moved to Connecticut in 1908. Two short years after he had moved, he had died and was buried in Woodlawn cemetery in Elmira, New York. He died of a heart attack, however his blood line has not died. He lives through his daughter Clara.
