"Prisoners" is a movie directed by Denis Villeneuve about a man named Keller Dover who spent his entire life preparing for the worst so he could protect his family until one day when his six year old daughter, Anna, is kidnapped and he takes matters into his own hands in order to find her. The image above displays Keller Dover's basement full of supplies.
This movie is a great example on how preparing can effect someone and their decisions. I think one of the messages of this film are that when something bad happens, even though you are stocked with the supplies to survive, are you prepared for losing people you are close to? Or perhaps the message was to show that if someone as prepared as Keller Dover could lose himself after the loss of his daughter, then you'd better be sure to understand yourself and your own emotions more thoroughly.
Being prepared is a common thing, we may not notice when we are prepared throughout everyday life. Students prepare for tests, adults prepare for board meeting presentations, stay at home moms prepare for the evenings meal, teachers prepare lessons. There are countless examples of how someone could prepare.
On the flip side, you do not always have to be prepared. In war for example, you may be prepared spoke the grand scheme of things, but when certain moments come you act upon reflex.

" 'Very impressive. Where did you learn that?'
'Made it up just now.' "
-John Flanagan
This quote is from the "Ranger's Apprentice" series by John Flanagan (taking place in medieval times) and shows how people do improvise even though they may be prepared for something as serious as combat.
Given the two opposites, both are needed to survive in this world as well as an understanding within ourselves and among everything around us. It is important to keep a balance between the two and always be securely prepared.
