"Props for Faith" By: Ursula Hegi
About the Author
Ursula Hegi was born in Germany and moved to the United States when she was 18 years old. Due to the tragedy of 9/11 Hegi has a fear of flying, however, she has decided that she will not "make decisions based on fear." Hegi is known for really capturing the mind of her reader by her description of the characters in her books. She was born a year after the war ended, she is now fifty five and she reopens the conversation of the Holocaust, which she believes way a risky move. She spends her days teaching creative writing classes as well as English. The author's life relates to the story because the story takes place where the author grew up.

Pre-reading Activity
When close friends get into a big argument, they should talk to each other to discover for themselves exactly what the other person is angry or upset about. After they discover why the other person is angry or upset, they should each take their part in solving their problem. It is important to solve your problem because imagine how much time and effort you have gone through together to become such great friends.
I think that when you just believe in something, it is never going to happen. However if you mean someone believes they could do something if they work hard enough for it, they I would say believing in something strongly could make it happen. Though, yes, just sitting around 'believing' is not going to get any of the job done you have to get up and do it.
